It has come to our attention that emails are being received by taxpayers, which claim to be from the Inland Revenue. The message suggests that the individual has a tax refund due to them and requests bank details so that the repayment can be made. The email includes a link to the HMRC website, which makes it look more authentic.

Please be aware that the Inland Revenue never notify repayment entitlements or request bank details via email and anyone receiving  a message of this nature should not respond. Instead the message should be  forwarded either to us or directly to: phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
